The Rab Spire pants are a mid-weight soft shell pant that is built for alpine rock climbing, mountaineering or ice climbing in New Zealand or any other mid altitude ranges for that matter. The Matrix soft shell fabric is highly wind and water resistant and able to easily cope with the weather on what would be considered a "good summit day" without the need for overpants.
The high stretch of the fabric combined with the slim fit also make them perfect for climbing. You get full range of movement without being all baggy so they're great to clearly see your feet and you don't catch your crampons on them as much.
